Am I a good candidate for dental implants?

If you don’t know where to start or unsure what treatment would be the best for you, try our FREE treatment plan & cost calculator (click).

Almost anyone who has lost a tooth, several teeth or all of their teeth is a candidate for dental implants. There are very few exceptions. For many people, modern titanium dental implants have changed their lives and revolutionised the dental field. For those who have lost one or more teeth, they offer long-term treatments that not only fully restore dental function but also enhance your smile’s look.

When are dental implants not recommended?

– You have had radiotherapy around your head or neck

– You have diabetes that isn’t well controlled, blood clotting disorders, cancer, problems with the immune system and drug abuse.
Solution we may offer: it still makes sence to consultate with your therapist and our team if there is any solution can be found we will do it together.

– You heavily smoke (including e-cigarettes) or chew tobacco. Heavy smoking can affect the healing process and may be bad for the long-term health of gum and bone surrounding the implant.
Solution we may offer: stopping or reducing smoking will considerably increase the success of your implant treatment.

– You have active gum desease. Gum disease creates an environment that increases the risk of infection around dental implants. This can lead to the failure and even loss of the implant.
Solution we may offer: gum disease can be managed using regular hygiene treatment, antibiotics or surgery, depending on how severe it is. Once your gum disease is under control, you might be able to have implants.

What if …?

– I’ve lost all my teeth?
Depending on the specific condition of your mouth, there may be several treatments available to you if you have lost all of your teeth.
It is possible to replace an entire arch of teeth (the whole upper set or the whole lower set of teeth) using an implant-supported, permanently fixed, full arch bridge. This is held secure by four, six or eight tooth implants, so it works like a natural set of teeth and can only be removed by a dentist.

– I have a low bone density?
In the past, patients with poor bone density and unusually small jaws were not suitable for implants. However, thanks to the development of atrophic maxilla and mini-implants, implants may now be possible even with less than ideal bone density. Options for improving bone density include bone augmentation, sinus lift, and ridge expansion.

– I was told my jawbones are insaficient for bone grafting?
Without teeth, the jawbone often deteriorates due to lack of stimulation. In some cases, there is such significant bone loss that dental implants and even bone grafts become impossible. Here we come up with a solution to overcome this problem: Zygomatic implants.

While regular implants are placed into the jawbone, zygomatic implants are designed to be anchored to the zygomatic bones (cheekbones). Since zygomatic implants are anchored to the cheekbones, they are performed only for an upper dental arch. What about the lower part, you might ask? There are still solutions available, such as mini implants, dentures held in place by implants, bridges supported by implants and secured with clips that can be removed by the patient for cleaning (both options utilize implants and do not rely on the gums), as well as various other alternatives.

Our maxillofacial surgeons and dentist prosthetists will find a solution for any case, even most complicated ones.
